Kohki Takatoh, Professor, Dr.,

Dr. Takatoh, formally Toshiba Corporation, has been a professor of Electronic and Computer Science, Tokyo University of Science, Yamaguchi since October 2005. He graduated from Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Osaka University, awarded the degree of MSC in 1983. At the same year, he joined in Toshiba Corporation. He started the research of LCDs in 1985. He was awarded the degree of PhD for the thesis of liquid crystal research from Osaka University in 1992. From 1992 to 1994, he was a visiting Scholar at Department of Chemistry, Hull University supervised by Professor Goodby. As a member of staff of Toshiba Corporation, he was a leader of liquid crystal development group for a long time. For example, he was a leader of the project for a fast and wide viewing angle TFT-LCD with FLC materials, the project for development of LC alignment layer produced without rubbing process and so on. In 2000, he proposed “Viewing Angle Control (VAC) Filter” and moved to Toshiba Electronic Engineering Corporation and launched a business of VAC Filter in 2004. In 2005, VAC Filter was adopted to Toshiba Dynabook Tecra M3 and other application. He is a co-editor and co-author of “Handbook of Liquid Crystal”. (2000) (Maruzen Co.) and co-author of “Alignment Technologies and Application of Liquid Crystal Devices”.(2005) (Taylor & Francis Ltd.) He obtained “The award of the Japanese Liquid Crystal Society for Outstanding Writing.” (2005)
